As spring arrives, Rockville High School and Montgomery County are thrilled to announce the return of the annual art shows. The art show presents talent, creativity, and dedication from young artists in the MCPS art programs. This April, come to the Rockville and Mid County art shows to check out your peers’ work!
On April 7th-10th, the Mid County art show is taking place at the Montgomery College Rockville campus in the Theatre Arts building, with a closing reception on April 10th at 5 p.m. This event is a part of a new format MCPS is using this year to organize art shows by geographic location.
Artworks from elementary through high school students will be on display at the Mid County show, giving visitors a chance to see art from all levels of development.
“I took studio art all 3 years [of middle school], and I really liked it,” ceramics 1 student Isai Lorios said.
It also ranges from people who have taken art classes their whole lives to those who are taking their first.
“I never took any [art] classes in middle school. In elementary, we had mandatory art classes, but I don’t really remember anything from them,” photography 1 student Eli Spence said.
The RHS art show is on April 21st at 6 p.m. The shows are a great way for students’ hard work and dedication to be presented to large audiences; the shows are available for anyone to see.
The art features a wide variety of art spanning from traditional painting and drawing to mixed media and sculpture.
The shows are a great way for students to share their work with more than just their friends, family, and teachers.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for people that aren’t just my classmates and teachers to see the art I’ve worked so hard on,” Lorios said.
In addition to showcasing creativity, the art shows also highlight the growth students have made throughout the year. Many of the pieces on display represent months of practice, revision, and experimentation in different ways. For some seniors, the show serves as a preview of the portfolios they may submit to colleges or art programs.
Whether you’re an artist yourself or simply someone who appreciates creativity, the Mid County and RHS art shows promise an inspiring look at the imagination and hard work of MCPS students. Be sure to stop by and support and celebrate the strong artistic community this spring.
