Senior Thomas Hailegebriel is announced at the Rams home opener, with various students in attendance. His varsity teammates cheer him on as he enters the court.

The boys basketball team kicked off their season on Dec. 7 with a rival game against the Richard Montgomery Rockets. The Rams took the court around 7pm, wearing their white home jerseys.

Unfortunately, the winter sports season was put on pause in 2020, after the spread of COVID-19. In addition, no indoor season was played when students returned back to school in the 2020-2021 school year. All fans and players on the sidelines were required to wear masks. As for players in the game, they could take their mask off on the court.

Prior to gametime, fans had to purchase tickets online at GoFan.com. This was the first time tickets were sold online and  no tickets were sold at the door. Prices were raised from $3 to $5 for the 2020-2021 basketball season with a $1 service fee added by GoFan.

With various seniors gone from the classes of 2020 and 2021, the class of 2022 now holds a large number of starters.

The Rams were excited to be back at home on Tuesday night following over a year of little to no basketball.

In the first quarter, both Rockville and RM came out tough, with aggression all over the court. Senior small forward Nate Yetagsu came out strong with over 50% of the points scored in the first quarter for the Rams. Furthermore, Senior power forward Thomas Hailegebriel was a huge threat to the Rockets. After the first quarter the game was tied, 12-12.

In the second quarter, aggression remained as 11 fouls were called throughout the quarter.  Juniors Noah Ohayon and Hunter Hausman scored a total of 12 points, scoring the majority of the points for the Rams. Nonetheless, RM outscored the Rams in the second quarter 19-17, making the score at halftime 26-24, RM.

Rockville dominated in the third quarter, only allowing 11 points from the Rockets. Senior point guard Sam Brami helped the Rams take the lead in the 3rd with various assists.

The fourth quarter was intense as a total of 17 fouls were committed and more than 30 points were scored. Players left their emotion on the court, as the score was close all throughout the quarter. Nonetheless, RM took home the victory with the final score of 60-52.

Lead scorers of the night for the Rams were Yetagsu and Hausman with a total of 32 points combined. Rockville plays again Friday at home against Northwood, hoping to redeem themselves from last Tuesday evening.
