As Roaming Rooster started clucking in Washington, D.C. in 2015 as a food truck, it quickly expanded to Maryland and Virginia within a year after gaining popularity on social media. With 13 locations in the DMV area, they serve free-range, grain-fed, and antibiotic-free chicken fresh every day.
Roaming Rooster serves a variety of different chicken dishes, with sandwiches, tenders, nuggets, wings, and fries on the side. Their most popular item is the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Roaming Rooster’s chicken items have a heat scale ranging from mild to extra hot.
The sandwich itself was very good and satisfactory. I would recommend you get it if you enjoy traditional chicken sandwiches. I got the club sandwich at the medium heat level, and would give it a 6.8/10. The sandwich costs $10.99 and comes with 2 layers of fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The ingredients were of very high quality. There was no real spicy kick to it like I was expecting, yet the flavoring still tasted very bodacious compared to lower-budget fast food.
There’s nothing like a stellar fast food meal with fries, right? The boardwalk fries cost $4.99, but unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. They lacked flavor and crispiness; instead of the crunch I expected, they had a dense, almost mealy texture. These fries lacked salt and overall seasoning, which made them underwhelming. I would rate them a 4.2/10.
The homemade lemonade was surprisingly delicious; it was just sweet enough and just tart enough to strike the perfect balance for a lemonade. The milkshake was pretty pleasant as well. I will say it is a bit thicker than I was expecting. I would give the lemonade a 8.6/10 and the milkshake a 7/10.
Overall, Roaming Rooster’s main item with chicken is very delectable, but the supporting features are lacking a bit. I would totally recommend getting it if you are ever near one
