Boys varsity basketball eked out a 37-34 win against the Watkins Mill Wolverines at Watkins Mill HS Jan. 12 bringing the Rams’ record to 5-7.

Both teams put up strong defensive efforts but the Rams’ overpowering defense was shown through the low score of their fifth win. The game only had 67 points in total.

“Not a lot of stats, but we got after it on D [defense]. We played real good D and rebounded well,” head coach Todd Dembroski said.

The Rams’ strong defensive effort was evident in their seven steals and 26 defensive rebounds. Freshman forward Jimmy Sorunke got nearly half of them, grabbing 12 of his own.

A unique part of the game was watching senior guard Anthony Bailey play against the school he played for last year. He scored five points, grabbed two defensive rebounds and had three steals.

“It felt good, there was a lot of love from the team, some of my best friends play on that team but it felt even better to win,” Bailey said.

The Rams have had a strong road performance as they have won their last three away games. Friday Jan. 19 is their next game. It is at home against the Next up the Rams face the Damascus Hornets (1-9) home Jan. 19.
