For the past three year around the holiday time, the IMC has been decorated with inspirational symbols of peace and hope, to be hung and viewed by the RHS community.

The idea of the bricks was headed by media assistant Pauline Bamdad, who is a professional decorator. The first year’s decoration was a dove and students were encouraged to write a message of peace on it. “Everybody should want peace a no matter what religion or background [you come from],” Weiss said. “It’s a universal goal.”

The second year the theme was snowflakes and the IMC was covered in snowflakes, just like RHS was. On the snowflakes students wrote their names, and a wintry wonderland of students was made.

This year, Weiss and Bamdad have decided on a brick theme. “[The bricks] are the building blocks towards the future,” Bambdad said. On the front table in the IMC there are stacks of three colors of paper bricks. On those bricks students and staff (anonymously) can write any goals they have, whether they be short-term goals or long-term goals.

With only being two weeks into the third year of this production, over 600 students have already written their goals on the bricks which are now displayed on the walls. Some of the goals are “Get into college,” “Pass bio” and “Be nicer.” Social studies teacher Elizabeth Seabreeze said, “I put my marathon on the brick.”

Most students enjoy being able to work in an environment where they are surrounded by motivational thoughts and goals. “It’s pretty cool. I wrote down that I would like to get a 3.98 GPA,” sophomore Shu-Shu Mba said.

The centerpiece of the display of all the “building blocks to our future” is a statement by Jeremy Giley, an English actor, from his Ted Talk, One Day of Peace, “Everything starts with one step, or one brick, or one word, or one day.” Bamdad chose this quote to symbolize this year’s theme of building your own future.

Everyday more classes and individual students come into the IMC, wondering about the bricks and wanting writing down their own goal and sharing it with their peers in a sea of so many other motivational thoughts. “If you write down a goal you are more likely to accomplish it,” Weiss said.
