Graduation was held at Strathmore Hall June 4 for the senior class of 2013.

The ceremony began as senior class President Kelly McTighe delivered a speech regarding the many marks the class of 2013 made on society, and as well as those society made on them.

The graduation continued with a performance of “These Are the Special Times,” performed by seniors Doris Okletely, Megan Rider and Alexus Washington.

Senior Carolyn Lane introduced Pre-IB English, TOK and Theatre teacher Carrie Vieira. Vieira’s commencement address discussed the importance of overcoming fear and stepping outside one’s box.

The RHS symphonic band then performed “aRondo for Horn.” Afterwards, student speaker Emily Janes delivered a farewell speech, as did RHS Principal Dr. Debra Munk, as well as Shirley Brandman, a member of the Board of Education.

Distinguished guests such as Superintendent Dr. Joshua Starr and community Superintendent Dr. Donna S. Hollingshead presented diplomas to the graduating seniors.

At the end of the roll call of graduates, Pacita and Kevin Miller, parents of deceased senior Michelle Miller, walked across the graduation stage to accept Miller’s diploma. Pacita Miller wore Michelle’s cap, tassels and National Honor Society sash. Guests applauded this in a standing ovation.

Graduation ended with the RHS Alma Mater and turning of the tassels.
