On May 25th, senior Chloe Thomas and senior Tam Le were the first members from the Learning for Independence (LFI) program to be crowned prom queen and king.

Thomas asked several fellow classmates in the LFI program to prom. However, they could not attend, leading Thomas to ask sophomore Joseph Broussard. Too nervous to ask face to face, she used the morning announcements to formally ask Broussard. Without hesitation, he accepted her invitation and attended prom with Thomas.

Thomas explained that her favorite part of prom was “everything” and that she was more than excited that she was crowned prom queen. However, Thomas also adored going with Broussard. “He is really cool and I love hanging with him,” said Thomas.

Queen and King were nominated and voted on by RHS seniors who made it a statement to vote Thomas as queen and Tam Le as king. “Chloe has had so much school spirit over the past few years and she’s an overall nice person, so I think she really deserved to win prom queen,” said senior Abby Klinedist. The morning announcements even featured a video prompting seniors to vote for the two students.

LFI advisor, Dawn Rundhammer, is proud of the RHS community for their acceptance of students with disabilities. “The nomination and crowning of Chloe and Tam shows just how special and accepting the RHS students are of our Special Needs Students…. It really warms my heart,” said Rundhammer. The senior class even was recognized at graduation on May 31 by RHS principal, Dr. Debra Munk for their positivity and welcoming attitude toward students with disabilities.

As the night came to a close, Thomas had won prom queen, enjoyed her company and had it all documented by Fox 5 News.
