‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Weaves Players Through Wild West

“Red Dead Redemption 2” is piquing interest worldwide–and locally–transporting gamers back in time to the late 19th Century in the wild west in an action-packed adventure game.

Commonly referred as “Red Dead 2,” this open world, story-based action and adventure game can be considered a masterpiece.

Released Oct. 26 the Red Dead sequel is $59.99 and compatible with Playstation 4, PC, and XBOX One.

Just two weeks after its release, “Red Dead Redemption 2” has knocked Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 off the No. 1 spot in the UK’s top charts for best selling video games.  In the U.S. it has sold more copies in eight days than the original did in eight years, according to a Nov. 17 Forbes article.

In the game, the player is an outlaw with a band of other outlaws running around robbing stores and trains and fighting with other gangs and the law.

The plot of “Red Dead 2” is previewed in the original “Red Dead Redemption” game released in 2010. The perspective is from an outlaw named Arthur Morgan who is a part of the “Van der Linde” gang.

Throughout the game, the player is able to do a variety of actions such as attempting different types of robberies, participating in bar fights, hunting and fighting the rival gang, the “O’Driscolls.”

Rated “M” for Mature, the game includes blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, sexual content, strong language and the use of drugs and alcohol.

I love the realism of the game.                       -senior Jeffrey Gomez

“‘Red Dead 2’ is amazing. I believe this game is going to be very popular throughout the next coming years. It’s just a game that is different from any other video games,” senior Jeffrey Gomez said. “I love the realism of the game. It’s very dense and diverse as you can do a variety of different missions. Also as you progress in the game, it gets better and better as you unlock new abilities and skills.”

Before “Red Dead 2,” “Grand Theft Auto V” (GTA V) was the most recent release by Rockstar games. Based in Los Angeles, California, GTA V is an open world adventure game set in modern big cities in the United States.

The best part of “Red Dead 2” is the freedom and the ability to do whatever the player desires. There are a variety of activities to do other than missions and players have the freedom to set their own pace.

“There really has not been any other western game to grasp and master the concept like the ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ game. The free roam world and real life consequences are really what do it for me,” senior Cole Nelson said. “My favorite part is the ability to do whatever you please at a low risk of putting a bounty on your head unless you shoot up a whole ranch which isn’t always a bad idea.”

As the advancement of technology and realism in the virtual world continues to progress, video games continue to push the boundaries of the interactive real-life experience. The creativity of “Red Dead 2” will inspire other future video games and in the meantime also inspires many students to roam the frontier, putting off their homework just a little bit longer.
