Varsity field hockey opened their season with a close 1-0 loss to the Richard Montgomery Rockets Sept. 4 at home, in a strong defensive effort by both teams.

The Rams displayed strong offense in the first half, pressing the Rockets with a close shot on goal. In the second half, the Rockets were able to score a goal and hold the lead for the rest of the game.

“I think our team performed really well tonight, considering we haven’t had that many practices due to the heat,” junior Kate Holland said.

The team was also the first to play on the new bermuda grass field, and the players agreed that it was a great improvement.

“The ball definitely moved more easily and freely and I think it helped us move the ball up the field more efficiently,” Holland said.

Despite the tough loss, the team looks to get their first win at their next game Sept. 7, at Poolesville.
