Most high schoolers can only dream of being an actor or actress in the far-off future. But for sophomore Amina Alzouma, this dream is already a reality.

Alzouma began acting at the age of six in community theatre. She was at first signed up by her mother, but eventually grew to develop a passion for the limelight, continuing on to participate in about 15 theatre productions and four on-screen productions. Alzouma hopes to continue acting at RHS and after high school.

“My favorite part about acting is the people that I get to meet,” Alzouma said.

Alzouma has been participating in RHS drama since she was a freshman, originally as a part of the stage crew, helping to paint sets. However, Alzouma decided to audition for the most recent production, “Back to the 80’s”, and received one of the lead roles.

“Amina is an interesting person because she’s both incredibly talented, but also incredibly humble,” director Dana Sato said. “She’s a great painter, she’s a great actress, but you’d never know it just by talking to her, because she’s not interested in boosting herself up, she’s just interested in doing a great job.”

While Alzouma plans to continue with drama for the rest of high school, she also has to balance that with her outside career as an actress. Alzouma goes to New York at least once a month to film episodes for a YouTube series she does with American Girl, and regularly does auditions. In the summers, Alzouma travels to LA, where she has an agent, to do auditions.

“It’s a lot of fun because I get to meet all these people that I don’t get to meet in New York, and I think LA has a lot more opportunities [for me],”Alzouma said. According to Alzouma, her biggest acting accomplishment was getting a role on a Nickelodeon TV show, but she later had to turn it down due to complications in traveling.

After high school, Alzouma is not entirely sure what she wants to do, but she knows that she wants to continue acting for a long time.

“I would love to make it a career, because it’s a lot of fun, and I think it’s something that I’ll like for the rest of my life,” Alzouma said.
