Varsity field hockey (7-6) kicked off their playoff schedule at home with a 3-1 win against the Kennedy Cavaliers (3-10), their first playoff victory in three years.

The team kept a fast paced offense with a strong performance from captain and senior attack Sarah Wagner, who has been on varsity all three years of high school.

“From winning only two games freshman year and winning our first playoff game my senior year, it’s been amazing to see our growth with the team,” Wagner said.

The first half opened with a goal from senior center attack Belen Ribulotta to which Kennedy quickly responded, leveling the score to 1-1. The first half closed 1-1.

Senior midfielder Kelly DiFonzo was able to regain the lead as she scored off a set piece to put Rockville up 2-1.

The game was a constant battle up and down the field as the teams fought to maintain their place in the playoffs. Ribulotta gave the Rams the edge as she scored her second goal of the game to put the Rams up 3-1.

Varsity field hockey continues their playoff run as they face the Blake Bengals away Oct. 30.
