Holiday music is considered a key component of the holidays for many. Popular songs like “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams are staples to the festivities and overall vibes of the season.
As we enter the holiday season, students at Rockville are beginning to indulge in listening to their favorite holiday music.
“‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’ is my favorite,” senior Valeria Nolasco said. “It’s so good and so well-made and really gets me in the Christmas spirit.”
With so many iconic holiday songs, it is hard for many students to choose just one favorite.
“Some of my favorite holiday songs include Justin Bieber classics like ‘Mistletoe’ and ‘Drummer Boy’ and also Mariah Carey’s greatest hits like ‘All I Want for Christmas is You,’” senior Grace Litzenberg said.
For Litzenberg, these holiday songs evoke a wide range of emotions, making them even more memorable for the season.
“I like these songs because they really embody the Christmas spirit,” Litzenberg said.“For Justin Bieber’s music, it’s the nostalgia of his impact in the music world and for Mariah Carey, it’s that constant year after year defrosting of Mariah that makes the song even more special.”
Additionally, these festive songs can help remind students of the joy from past years and good moments with friends and family.
“Those songs get me in the holiday spirit because they bring me joy and remind me of good memories from when I was younger around this time of year,” senior Anela Velasco said.
The cheerful music and the nostalgia they elicit combine to make the music so special to students and many would likely agree with these popular choices as their favorites.
“One hundred percent, people love these songs because they are the classics that will last forever and I know they are always in people’s Christmas playlists because they are bangers,” Litzenberg said.
