With the holiday season approaching, the annual Rockville Square Tree Lighting may be worth adding to your itinerary of fun things to explore this December.
The event, taking place on December 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rockville Town Center, is said to be an “evening of music, entertainment, ice skating, and the tree lighting” by the Visit Montgomery website.
The tree in question? An evergreen tree in front of the ice rink: which is set to be adorned with ornaments and Christmas lights that will be lit during the event.
“The tree is absolutely massive,” an attendee of the event in years past, senior William Songsamavong, said. “Like, massive tree, massive ornaments, and [it’s] very decorative as well […] Absolutely mesmerizing.”
When asked about his previous experiences attending the event, Songsamayvong recalled fond memories of ice skating with his family.
“You don’t even need to know how to ice skate,” Songsamayvong said. “You can just go on the ice and, like, go there for fun. I remember falling over a bunch, but, like, that’s part of the experience.”
Other RHS students have also cited their interest in ice skating. Senior Jerson Vallecios agreed that the ice rink sounded like a good outing for friends and family.
“I’ve never been ice skating, but I do find the idea to try out skating fun,” Vallecios said. When asked whether or not he would be attending, however, he declined: “Honestly, the only thing holding me back is the fact that I do not live in Rockville.”
If you’re in the area and looking for a family-friendly holiday excursion, the Rockville Square Tree Lighting is worth visiting!
“I really like the event,” Songsamayvong said. “Rockville Town Center has something for everyone, from, like casual goers to, like people who want to buy stuff. There’s many great food, attractions, and all around a really good community to be in.”
