Senior Anika Wong has set high goals for her future and is using the resources available to her now, like taking certain classes, in hopes it will open more opportunities later.
“I really want to work with children, but to get there, I have to do a lot of skilling, and I just feel like it’s good discipline to be able to get up in the morning and do a routine and then do what you have to do, and discipline yourself to consistently keep that up,” Wong said.
The resilience, focus, and courage that Wong has learned through school now applies equally to her experiences preparing for her future career and goals.
“[In school] I learned to be more outspoken and when to speak first, and how to approach somebody in conversation and to pick up on like cues of what kind of things that they either are into or that you can relate to,” Wong said.
As she embarks on her journey to start university and train for a career in nursing, Wong feels prepared by her high school experiences.
“I have to discipline myself not to go out to parties or not to hang out this then and there, and set direct times to study time management. It’s like, it’s going to be a really big thing that I realized,” Wong said.
