Believe it or not, Joharri Harris never actually intended to teach English.
“I didn’t want to teach English. My goal was to teach social studies, and I was offered this position. Now, I’m here,” Harris said.
Although Harri’s journey into teaching English was purely circumstances, that doesn’t mean he enjoys it any less than someone who chose their job directly. His focus on treating students with respect fosters a positive classroom environment for everyone.
“I think number one, I try to bring positivity into my classroom. I treat my students how I treat my colleagues,” Harris said. “So, I think it’s the teacher who defines the energy of the classroom and what that classroom’s atmosphere is going to be like.”
Some teachers may let students’ energy dictate the classroom environment, but Harris’s method of maintaining a positive atmosphere is one reason he is respected. He is fearless in the classroom.
“I don’t have a biggest fear. I choose not to allow fear to dictate or determine my decisions or apprehensions. I wouldn’t have any fears as a teacher,” Harris said.
