At only 23 years old Chloe Weiss is one of the youngest, most passionate teachers at Rockville High School.
“During the summers in college, I would do internships or smaller jobs, but this is my very, very first official adult job, which is very exciting,” Weiss said.
She loves her job so far even though she is one of the youngest choral teachers in the county. At times, that can be daunting, because it’s easy to compare herself with more experienced teachers.
“I’m telling myself to take my time and to be efficient. I’m making a name for myself, and I could not be happier with what I’m doing,” Weiss said.
Weiss’s favorite parts of her job are the excitement of the spring musical and helping students perform things that she personally likes: music, acting, and creepy stories. She also enjoys opportunities to work with new teachers and students.
“If I had to give advice to a new teacher, I would say don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It makes you human and that is the most important thing,” Weiss said. “Also showing who you are, why you’re here, and why you’re passionate about working with people over the subject that you teach.”
Weiss wants her students to enjoy something that she does too, but the key is to understand that each student is different, and you have to be willing to work with them based on who they are.
“That’s how you’re going to be most successful, meeting where [students] are at and go from there,” Weiss said. “I think being your most genuine self is the most important thing you can do.”
