Junior Nathan Gilazgi lived in Kensington, England throughout his childhood, moving to Maryland when he was 7, Gilazgi had to embrace the challenges of coming to a new country.
“The biggest challenge for me was having to leave all my friends… it’s a big change to move from another country,” Gilazgi said.
One of the parts that made it hard for Gilazgi was the differences in day-to-day life between the two countries. One of these aspects was the community around him.
“It was a really nice community there [in England]. It’s a small country and very populated so everyone knows each other,” Gilazgi said.
This is something not as present in the United States according to Gilazgi. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t positives to being in a less populated area.
“Normally the traffic in America is 50, 50, but in England, there is always traffic because it’s so packed together,” Gilazgi said.
Another substantial difference between the United States and England is school. Over 90% of high schools in England require uniforms, which Gilazgi explained as one of the more positive differences between the countries.
However, he still believes both America and England are great countries, and their differences make them unique. Which made the move difficult, but the new environment exciting.
“It’s difficult to move from any country to America because America is the first world country, it’s better than any other country,” Gilazgi said.
