Rockville’s Varsity Boys Basketball team narrowly defeated the Northwood Gladiators with a score of 61-59 on Tuesday’s senior night game, bringing them to a 4-14 record.
“I think it was really important to go out there and win on senior night for our seniors,” sophomore Mason Frazier said.
Northwood entered the matchup with an 8-12 record and a 3 game winning streak over Blair, Wheaton and Einstein. With 1 minute and 29 seconds left in the game Senior Joshua Burnett hit a mid range shot to give Rockville a 61-59 lead. Rockville followed up with a strong defensive stretch, giving up no points for almost 2 minutes. The Northwood Gladiators were forced to shoot a long range three pointer which was short at the buzzer, closing the game out strong for Rockville.
“We played hard all game, and we knew we had to finish the game on defense.” Frazier added.
Joshua Burnett led the score board with 26 points, followed by Senior Jaden Miller with 12 points and senior Manoli Manolakos with 11 points. Junior Chris Egelebo was another major contributor with 10 points scored for Rockville.
Matthews acknowledges the need to finish the season strong and use this game as momentum.
“We need to continue to win games, we have…RM left, and it is important to keep trying to improve our playoff standings,” Frazier said.
Varsity Boys Basketball will play their next game at Rockville against Richard Montgomery High School on Tuesday Night.
“We need to keep the energy up for the remainder of the season,” Frazier said.
