Model Rams for School Year 2011-12

Determination, perseverance, respect and leadership are just the beginning of the characteristics that both Seniors Tommy Broussard and Natalie Snyder possess qualifying them as this year’s Model Rams.

From the kickoff of the first boys soccer game to the baseball team’s regional championship game, this year’s coaches reminisced about their team’s success at last week’s Varsity banquet. Each coach rewarded two of their most deserving players with unique awards such as the “Fire” award and “Ball to the Wall” award.

Many coaches make the effort to reward those who may not have the best statistics but had the best character and attitude. Varsity Softball coach, Madeline Buck awarded senior Anne Wagner with the Fire Award because she brought just that to the teams. “She was always the last one to leave and lit up the field while she was there” said Coach Buck.

Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Abdel Makhlouf had nothing but praise for Seniors Evan Hoppman and Christian Porras. Each was honored for different reasons; Hoppman was a great leader with an excellent attitude while Porras was able to lead by example on the field.

The banquet was also a great opportunity to recognize the Allied and Unified teams RHS have devolped. The Allied Softball team, led by band teacher Phil Barnes awarded two players who have helped make the team possible. “I couldn’t be more proud,” said Barnes. The Allied Bocce team captured the audience as they explained how they came from losing the division to winning third in the whole state.

The last award but certainly not least was the Model Ram. Awarded by the Booster Club, the nominees are selected by coachs and chosen by members. The Ram should embody everything it means to be a Ram, overall well-roundedness that many could attest to. This year’s winners received a $1,000 scholarship that they may use as they please.

Natalie Snyder is a member of the RHS Swim and Dive team. “There is no doubt in my mind that she will make everyone proud someday,” said Swim Coach James Castonguay. The wrestling team got lucky when Broussard was cut from the basketball team his sophomore year and they received this remarkable young man. Both Snyder and Broussard will stand proud as this year’s Model Ram’s.
