Busted, a brand new show on MTV, recounts stories of police “busting” juveniles doing illegal acts, such as underage drinking and doing drugs, on Mondays at six p.m.. Can you say, typical?
This show is basically like Cops; however, the people that get “busted” are not old and psycho. This show is not for all age groups. It is mostly for teens to show what criminal activities irresponsible peers get involved in.
Busted viewers see the consequences of other people’s actions through teens’ firsthand experiences. Teens will know how they would look and act like at in a situation when they are apprehended by police. During the show the teens share how they felt after being caught and what they were thinking when they were getting “busted.” Most participants describe feeling scared, panicked and confused.
The teens that get caught in the show are from Maryland, which hurts the reputation of our community. Busted should film in various states so viewers would know that they could get caught in any state, not just Maryland. The viewers that watch this show are probably watching it for only entertainment, not paying attention to what the real reason why MTV is airing the show.
MTV should put a message at the end of the show telling teens to be more careful about their decisions. On the up side, the end of the show is that the teens who got “busted” explain how they regret doing what they did and what they can do to avoid their situation again. This show can influence teens to rethink possibly committing illegal acts they might do.
