“Back to the 80’s: The: The Totally Awesome Musical,” ended 2015 – 2016 RHS drama with a bang. The upbeat 80’s songs and entertaining plot left the audience begging for more.

A mix of popular 80’s hits including “Love Shack” (the B-52’s), “Walking on Sunshine” (Katrina and the Waves), “Footloose” (Kenny Loggins) and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” (Cyndi Lauper) sent students into a frenzy as they jammed out in their seats, and brought older viewers back in time to their teenage years when these songs were first released.

The talented actors and actresses performed a marvelous production filled with high energy, humor and an epic star wars scene, which appealed to kids and adults of all ages.

Senior Mark Pankowski participated in his first show production at RHS this spring and loved every second of the experience.

“My solo in “Love Shacka wasn’t just something to bring the house down. It was an empowering moment where I finally realized my true God-given talent,” Pankowski said.

Typically the musical comes out before spring break so with the later performance date, everyone involved felt a bit more pressure coming up to opening night. Director Dana Sato and Technical Director Daniel Tobiassen worked with the actors and musicians to perfect the show during the long, hard four months of practice time.

The show also including a live pit orchestra led by Musical Director Phil Barnes. This magnificent live music gave the show a more authentic feeling and added more character to the show itself.

“All the hard work put into the musical definitely paid off, it was a great show,” senior Mary-Kate Barrett said.
